Door County's restaurants are spread across its villages rather than clustered in one downtown. We checked eight established restaurants below against their own sites and current Yelp or TripAdvisor listings — all are operating year-round or seasonally, with verified hours, reservation policies, and location details.

White Gull Inn

A legendary Fish Creek institution serving traditional Door County fish boils since 1896. Breakfast is walk-in only and nationally famous (featured on Good Morning America's Best Breakfast Challenge); lunch is walk-in; dinner and fish boils are reservation-recommended.

Hours:

• Breakfast: Daily 7:30 AM–2:00 PM (walk-in only)

• Lunch: Daily 12:00 PM–2:00 PM (walk-in only)

• Candlelight Dinner: Mon, Tue, Thu 5:00 PM–7:30 PM

Wild Tomato Wood-Fired Pizza & Grille

Fish Creek wood-fired pizza and grille using local, seasonal, and organic ingredients.

Hours: Daily 11:00 AM–9:00 PM (summer 2026; winter hours vary)

Reservations: Takes reservations (call ahead recommended).

Good to Know: Wood-fired pizza, pasta, burgers. Adjusted winter hours available.

Al Johnson's Swedish Restaurant & Butik

In Sister Bay, Al Johnson's serves traditional Swedish and Scandinavian fare — meatballs, pancakes, limpa bread — in an authentic log building. Its famous sod roof with grazing goats is genuinely real and current, with a rotating family-owned herd out roughly May through October.

Hours:

• Main Restaurant: Daily 7:00 AM–3:00 PM

• Stabbur Kitchen (Kök): 12:00 PM–8:00 PM

• Stabbur Bar: 11:00 AM–Close

Good to Know: Sod-roofed building with live goats May–mid-October. Stabbur Beer Garden available.

Boathouse on the Bay

At the Sister Bay marina, Boathouse on the Bay is a waterfront seafood spot known for its lobster roll, with sunset views and a Fly Bridge Bar with floor-to-ceiling windows.

Hours: Tue–Sun 11:00 AM–9:00 PM; Closed Monday (except Memorial Day)

Reservations: Contact directly for current reservation policy (conflicting information online; call to confirm).

Good to Know: Waterfront marina dining with sunset views. Live music available.

Old Post Office Restaurant

An Ephraim institution serving traditional Door County fish boils at historic Water Street.

Hours:

• Sunday: 7:30 AM–12:00 PM

Fish Boil Times: 5:15 PM, 6:30 PM, 7:45 PM (nightly Mon–Sat; holiday Sundays)

Good to Know: Seasonal (mid-May through last Sunday in October). Lake Michigan waterfront views. Fish boil meals include slaw, potatoes, onion, bread, cherry pie.

Chives Door County

A Baileys Harbor farm-to-table fine dining bistro with its own on-site garden and made-from-scratch program covering bakery, ice cream, and juices.

Hours: Thu–Mon 4:00 PM–9:00 PM; Sun Brunch 9:00 AM–2:00 PM; Closed Tue–Wed

Reservations: Recommended; required for parties of 5+ (credit card required; $25/person no-show fee for 24+ hour cancellations required).

Good to Know: Chef-owned with on-site farm. Certified sommelier. Various dietary accommodations available.

Nightingale Supper Club

A Sturgeon Bay supper club classic with live music Friday nights and a full bar.

Hours: Mon–Sat 5:00 PM dinner; Happy Hour Mon–Fri 4:00 PM–6:00 PM; Closed Sunday

Reservations: Recommended; day-of reservations close at 4:00 PM.

Good to Know: Supper club classics. Live music Friday 4:30 PM–7:30 PM.

Inn at Cedar Crossing & Cedar Crossing Restaurant & Bar

Fine dining in a historic 1884 downtown Sturgeon Bay building with seasonal inspirations.

Hours: Thu–Sat 11:00 AM–9:00 PM; Sun 11:00 AM–8:00 PM; Closed Mon–Wed

Reservations: Phone reservations only; no online dining reservations.

Good to Know: Historic 1884 building. Closed February 23–March 12, 2026 for renovation. Closed Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day.

Practical Tips

• White Gull Inn's breakfast (especially cherry-stuffed French toast) is genuinely nationally award-winning; arrive early for walk-in seating.

• Old Post Office is seasonal (mid-May to late October); plan accordingly.

• Al Johnson's sod roof with grazing goats is real and current (May–mid-October); worth seeing in person.

• Chives and Nightingale Supper Club are the two most clearly reservation-worthy options on this list.
