Mountain Village: Slopeside, Priced For It

Mountain Village sits at the base of the lifts, about 6-7 miles and roughly 1,500 feet above Town Center. Huntley Lodge, at 50 Big Sky Resort Rd, is the resort's original hotel and closest thing Big Sky has to a historic flagship — part of Chet Huntley's original vision for the resort, with slopeside access and an outdoor pool. Montage Big Sky (995 Settlement Trail) sits at the top of the market here, in the Spanish Peaks Mountain Club area. What Mountain Village buys you is convenience — ski-in/ski-out, no driving in ski boots — genuinely worth it for a short winter trip, harder to justify for a summer stay once the drive down to Town Center's restaurants and grocery store gets old.

The New Arrival: One&Only Moonlight Basin

One&Only Moonlight Basin opened November 18, 2025 on the north side of Lone Mountain (77 Roosevelt Rd) — the brand's first US property and its first ski resort anywhere. It's genuinely new information for anyone researching Big Sky with an older guide: 73 rooms and suites plus villas and residences on 240 acres bordered by more than 17,000 acres of protected land, with nightly rates starting around $1,950 before tax. This is a splurge property in the literal sense, not a "worth it" call most travelers need to make.

Town Center and Meadow Village: Better Value, More Legwork

Down at the highway junction, The Wilson Hotel — operated as a Residence Inn by Marriott (145 Town Center Ave) — is the most practical mid-range option: suites with kitchens, a free ski shuttle, and walking access to Town Center's restaurants and the Wednesday farmers market. Buck's T-4 Lodge, on US-191 about a mile south of the Highway 64 turnoff, has been operating since 1946 and offers a more old-Montana, lodge-style stay with two on-site restaurants and included hot breakfast.

The Common Mistake

Booking a "Big Sky" hotel without checking whether it's in Mountain Village or down at Town Center is the single most common planning error — the two are a 10-15 minute drive apart, and in winter that drive is often on snowpack. Confirm the zone before comparing prices.
