Specialty Coffee

Flying Goat Coffee, roasting in Healdsburg since 1994, runs two Center Street locations (300 and 419 Center St) with direct-trade sourcing and daily roasting. Black Oak Coffee Roasters now occupies Flying Goat's former 324 Center St space, serving espresso drinks, breakfast sandwiches, and pastries.

Artisan Bakeries

Quail & Condor (44 Mill St), a short walk from the Plaza, has become the town's most nationally recognized bakery, known for kouign-amann and morning buns and a 2025 James Beard Award semifinalist nod. Downtown Bakery & Creamery (308 Center St), right on the Plaza since 1987, is best known for its sticky buns; it changed ownership in December 2021 while keeping its name and character. Costeaux French Bakery & Cafe (417 Healdsburg Ave) is a long-running French bakery and sit-down cafe known for sourdough bread and pastries.

Cafe-Adjacent Spots

Little Saint (25 North St) is a plant-based restaurant and coffee bar occupying the building that once housed SHED, the town's famous food-culture space that closed in 2018 — Little Saint opened here in 2022 from the team behind SingleThread. Acorn Cafe (124 Matheson St) is a casual daytime breakfast-and-lunch spot just off the Plaza.

Cafes We Excluded

SHED itself closed permanently at the end of 2018 and should not appear in any current recommendation — see Little Saint above for its actual present-day replacement. Moustache Baked Goods appears to have closed, with no evidence of relocation. Acre Coffee rebranded to Avid Coffee after an ownership change, and its former Healdsburg coffee-shop space is now a tapas restaurant. Big Bottom Market, a well-known Sonoma County bakery brand, is actually located in Guerneville, not Healdsburg — don't conflate it with Big John's Market, a legitimate Healdsburg grocery store.
